Hwange National Park Visit
Hwange National Park is the largest natural game reserve in Zimbabwe and is home to the largest
elephant population in the country. With over 100 mammal species and 400 bird species, including
Africa’s Big 5, this park is amazing for game activities and bird watching. The park is also home to all of
Zimbabwe’s specially protected animals, with units including the Painted Dog Conservation Program and
the Lion Conservation Unit. The park is a great space to study Zimbabwe’s wildlife, conservation
pressures, human-wildlife conflict mitigation as well as animal migration and tracking.
Victoria Falls Viewing
Known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya (meaning ‘The Smoke That Thunders’) or Shungu Namutitima
(meaning ‘Boiling Water, the majestic Victoria Falls, is a waterfall on the Zambezi River. It is in a town
in western Zimbabwe which also goes by the same name. David Livingstone, a European missionary,
named it after the British monarch, Queen Victoria. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1989,
Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and is known to be the world’s largest
sheet of falling water. This geological spectacle is accessible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe as it lies
on the two countries’ borders.
The Boma Dinner & Drum Show
The Boma is a major highlight when visiting Victoria Falls. It is located on the Victoria Falls Safari
Lodge estate and open for dinner daily from 7 pm. The evening begins with a warm welcome from
traditional dancers at the entrance and the ceremonious adornment of each guest in a ‘chitenge’ (African
print sarong). Thereafter, an authentic Zimbabwean meal experience that consists of multiple courses
broken down into platters, campfire soups, various salads and vegetarian dishes, a braai (barbeque) buffet
with game meats and stews, and finally, an assortment of desserts. Among the food options is the mopane
worm (a high protein local delicacy) that is a thrilling first-time culinary experience for many.
Chobe Game Drive
The Chobe Game Drive is the perfect way to Come into close contact with wild animals in their natural
habitat at the Chobe National Park. Explore the park on land and one can spot most of Africa’s Big Five
as well as spot a wide variety of birds and fish. This section of the park is best known for its dense
concentration of wildlife including elephants and hippos. Learn about each animal from your expert guide
and experience the atmosphere of the Botswana bush.
